For this week's blog, I've decided to chat with you all about something that I think is very important when it comes to doing makeup; priming.
There are so many different kinds of primers out there for all different skin types. Primer provides a barrier between your skin and the makeup, that way the makeup doesn't seep into your pores making your skin dirty and causing breakouts. It also gives your makeup something to grip on to, so it doesn't slip and slide around on your face throughout the day.
For large pores, there are pore minimizing primers that work very well. Personally I like the Benefit Porefessional. Primers like this one fill in those pores providing a smooth surface for makeup to go on top of.
For oily skin there are mattifying primers that help absorb the oil, and for dry skin there are primers to give back that healthy luminous glow. You can also use setting spray as a primer (this is one of my favorite tricks). Using a setting spray that is meant for prolonging the wear of your makeup as a primer can really do the trick if your makeup tends to melt off your face by the end of the day.
When you don't use a primer, you're allowing the makeup to sink into your pores (a quality you may want for your moisturizer, but not your foundation). This causes pores to become clogged - yes even if you wash your face - thus causing breakouts. It is so important to create that barrier, so that bacteria that may be hiding on your makeup brushes or in the openings of your tubes of makeup doesn't find its way onto your skin.
